I’ve been a little MIA over the last few days because we were busy celebrating my little one’s first birthday! I chose a circus theme for the party because her room is decorated with a circus theme.
For the dessert table, I made a curtain with a yard of striped fabric and a wrapping paper roll! I just sewed a pocket at the top of the fabric where I could insert the cardboard tube, and I threaded a piece of string through the tube to hang it. The fabric was slit about two thirds of the way up and tied with ribbon.
We had licorice whips, salt water taffy, sour balls, old fashioned hard candy sticks, and cotton candy in addition to the beautiful lemon cake from Kim and Jake’s Cakes in Boulder.
I added a couple of vintage-style toys that I picked up at Cost Plus World Market, some tickets I found at the dollar store, and these free printable cake toppers to round out the table.
We have been taking one picture every month of our little girl, and so we printed those and hung them in order from a ribbon across the window—that was a big hit with guests, who loved seeing how little D has grown and changed. I hung red tissue paper poms over the table.
The cupcakes for the kiddos were the centerpiece of the table on a three-tiered tray from IKEA. The tablecloth was a fabric remnant I picked up, sheer white with little black stars (over a plain white tablecloth). And we had a couple of big red and white popcorn buckets filled with popcorn, a big bowl of peanuts, pretzel bites, hot dogs with all the toppings and a veggie tray and fruit salad.
The cupcakes were actually low-sugar carrot muffins topped with cream cheese frosting. And they were actually super tasty! You can get the recipe for the cupcakes here.
This is a great idea and I can’t wait to try it out for my kid. Thank you for the ideas!
